Quick Cabinet Remodeling Tips
You don't need to replace your cabinets for a new look in your kitchen. Replacing old cabinets can be expensive and time consuming. There are less expensive options, to give those old, worn out cabinets new life, and give your kitchen a fresh, new look.
One of the most inexpensive things you can do to give kitchen cabinets a new look, is to replace the hardware. Your local hardware store will have drawer pulls and cabinet handles in many different styles and finishes. Changing the hardware doesn't take long, either. Within an hour, you can have new handles installed. Installing new cabinet hardware is also a good option if you're in an apartment or rental home. You can simply replace the existing handles with handles of your choice, and then just put the old hardware back on when you move.
You can also work with the cabinet doors and the drawer fronts to create a new look. You can add some wooden trim along the edges, or do some other decorative work. Get creative with some beads or some glass and tile to create a colorful mosaic on the cabinet doors. If you feel like a bit more of a change, you can replace the cabinet doors altogether, maybe replacing solid wood doors with wooden framed glass doors.
Refinishing your cabinets is a good option, if you have a bit more time to spend on your remodeling project.A new coat of paint, or some stain can make those tired old kitchen cabinets look like new. Ideally, whether painting or staining the cabinets, you'll want to strip off the old finish. Once this is done, sand the surfaces with 150 grit sandpaper, and remove the sanding dust with a soft cloth, dampened with mineral spirits. If you're planning on painting the cabinets, and stripping is not an option, then a thorough cleaning followed by a light sanding will be enough to prepare the cabinets.
Renovating your kitchen doesn't have to cost a lot, or take a lot of time. Some quick and simple changes to your cabinets can make a huge difference in how your kitchen looks.
